Welcome to the blog!  Once upon a time this was a blog dedicated to writing about every film I watched. But I was constantly anywhere from 40-60 films behind, so…no longer. I’m mostly writing when a film really moves me, or otherwise about blocking. Blocking is perhaps the cinematic detail that both intrigues me the most and that I’m able to articulate in any way that feels interesting (to me, at least).

I hope you enjoy reading!

This next paragraph is from my old “About,” but I’m leaving it here, because it still feels partially relevant:

One of my goals on this blog is to write less about story and more about the mechanics of filmmaking as I see them.  That means things like shot selection, camera movement, blocking of actors, production design, sound design, and score, among others.  I’ll inevitably discuss character and story, but, with the emphasis so squarely on those elements in popular film criticism, I’d prefer to diverge in this forum.

Creative minds united across the unconscious be that space collective or not as debated by post Jungian discussion. However that discussion is decided, I look forward to being connected to your thoughts. my friend.

We’ll keep the post-Jungian to a minimum, Molly.

That is the most times I’ve ever used this phrase in a two-day span. I usually spread it out over at least a four-day period.

  3. Great blog. Can’t remember how exactly I came across it, but I’m glad I did. I really do look forward to reading all your posts. Your taste in film in impeccable; your insights on directing spot on. I look forward to seeing your film one day.
